I have a LG 37inch 1080p HDTV and the picture quality is awful, my old CRT tv picture quality was alot better, is this because my tv is now HD and i dont subsribe to HD channels?
No, it’s because LG TVs have a reputation for poor picture quality. Any LCD or Plasma TV will have somewhat poorer-quality pictures than your old set, unless you are watching HD, but some are much better than others.
Before we bought our new 46″ LCD TV, we thoroughly researched the Internet review sites/forums to find the best deal/quality; Sony came out tops, but was hugely expensive, and was followed closely by JVC (which is what we bought because we got a really great deal). LG was slated badly on every site (and we looked at lots). Some other brands of TVs have LG technology, too, so are just LGs under a different name.
The reason they look good in the shops is because they are often running on an HD loop and not the standard programmes others in the shop are showing, and this gives a false impression of the general picture quality.
I’d say you have something wrong with your reception, or your tv, or you’re just seeing the difference between analogue and digital. My LG6000 37″ is a brilliant picture - can’t fault it.
Don’t forget that some things can look worse on digital than a good quality analogue - particularly fast action such as football here the picture can be a bit ‘blocky’.
However, your LG set also lets you select analogue channels, so you may find these better.
If it still looks wrong, and you’ve adjusted all the options in the picture set-up, you may want to talk to the shop from where you bought it as it could be faulty. Hope you get it sorted
Granny is right should have done some more research there is a reason LG tv’s always go on sale they are junk. Simply look at these manufacturers. It appears you are budget minded so mentioning Pioneer for the best Plasma is mundane. Panasonic if you want plasma. Now for LCD you have 4 I would highly recommend Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Toshiba and in that order Samsung has the best LCD on the market by FAR!
